Hearts & Bones Rescue wins $100,000 grant from Petco Love thanks to adopter’s story

Dallas, TX and New York, NY – Hearts & Bones Rescue is honored to have won a $100,000 Holiday Wishes Grant Campaign from the Petco Love to save more dogs in need. We are so incredibly overwhelmed with gratitude for Yukari, who submitted her story to the Petco Love Stories competition and was chosen as the grand prize winner from thousands of entries. She shared how her adopted dog, Butter and her dog parent community helped her find love and trust in the face racism and hate. She shared, "Butter connected me with a community of pet parents who are empathetic and generous in spirit—and reminded me that even when faced with hate and fear, I must continue to choose love and trust.”

Yukari has been such an amazing and generous member of our community over the years. Not only has she provided an incredible life for Butter, helping her work through anxiety and become a confident queen - she also raised money during the pandemic to help us rescue more dogs in need through her beautiful Friends of Butter pet portraits. We are so incredibly honored and grateful to have Yukari, Ben, their newborn son, and of course Queen Butter herself in our rescue family.

Hearts & Bones is additionally grateful to Petco Love, Bob’s Sketchers, and all the Petco store employees for this incredible lifesaving investment. Thanks to this grant, we will be able to change the lives of thousands of dogs and the people who love them.

About Hearts & Bones Rescue

Hearts & Bones Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless dogs from the nation’s most overburdened shelters and uniting them with loving families. At its rescue base in Dallas, TX, Hearts & Bones works directly with shelters at the forefront of the stray and unwanted dog crisis, in areas where euthanasia rates are among the highest in the country. Newly rescued dogs are placed into loving foster homes around Dallas, or stay at the new Hearts & Bones Rescue Ranch for 1-2 weeks. Hearts & Bones then runs bi-weekly transports of 30-50 dogs to their adoptions hub in New York City, where all dogs are met by their loving foster parents and stay with them until they’re adopted. Since its founding in 2017, Hearts & Bones has saved the lives of over 2,000 dogs thanks to the efforts of their more than 1,000 foster families and dedicated volunteers.
