Saving Lives in Texas
Since our founding in 2017, Hearts & Bones has focused on rescuing dogs from the Texas shelter system by placing as many as we can into loving foster homes. While we've made incredible progress thanks to our Texas fosters, the shelter system is still overrun with animals in need. In 2019, almost 700,000 animals entered Texas shelters, and 100,000 didn't make it out alive. We knew we needed to do more, and fast.
A New Way to Rescue
This year, Hearts & Bones took over a private dog retreat to be used exclusively for the rescue and transport of dogs out of Texas shelters and into loving foster and forever homes on the East Coast. The Hearts & Bones Rescue Ranch enables us to dramatically increase the number of dogs we can rescue in Texas by providing a safe, comfortable and loving place for them stay while we prepare their transport.
Life at the Ranch
We can care for up to 50 dogs at a time at the Ranch, in comfy private kennels with their own outdoor runs, and large communal play yards for zoomies. With a full-time caretaker living on site and wonderful part-time caregivers, we can provide our newly rescued dogs with the best care, any medical treatment they might need, and an endless supply of love. Each dog will stay at the Ranch for about 2 weeks, and then head to NYC to join their eagerly awaiting foster and forever families!
